On offer is a custom cafe racer built in 2008 with some very nice/rare bits, and engine overhauled by the well-known Leo Goff of Memphis Motor Werks. As it is an older restoration, some of the polished alloy parts are already a bit dull. Bike has covered just over 50 miles since build was completed, but is dusty from sitting. CHASSIS & BRACKETS: ’72 chassis complete with upgraded ’75 spec vernier adjustable isolastics. New swingarm bushings & steering bearings. Centerstand only, no sidestand. Polished alloy Z-plates. Frame and large black parts painted with Dupont Imron.
ENGINE: ’72 Combat (stamped head) engine, verified by Leo Goff as original Combat spec. Total overhaul with Superblend bearings, new +.020″ pistons & rings, shell bearings, bushings, gaskets, camchain & adjuster, primary chain, Barnett clutch plates with clutch stack optimized for easy lever pull, Kibblewhite Black Diamond valves & springs with Leo Goff shortened pushrods to match high compression head geometry. Original Combat 2S cam. Leo Goff recommended & performed oil sump and crankcase breather modifications. A little research will quickly assure the buyer that Leo Goff is reputed to be one of the top Norton engine builders in the U.S. for over 30 years. Overhauled Amal concentric carbs, classic “Peashooter” exhaust. Braided stainless steel rocker oil feed lines, OEM oil filter setup with new filter.
SUSPENSION: Forks are totally rebuilt (seals, bushings, stanchions & gaiters), supposedly with Cocertina sleeves (never disassembled to verify). Rear shocks are new pattern replica units.
WHEELS, BRAKES & TIRES: Original Dunlop steel chromed rims with original hubs & spokes in very good condition. OEM rear drum brake with new Ferrodo shoes. Norvil 13″ fully floating front disc upgrade kit with modern master cylinder and braided stainless brake line, DOT3 fluid. Avon 4.10×19 Roadrunner tires (MADE IN ENGLAND). Tires have not been balanced.
CONTROLS: Thomaselli adjustable “clip on” handlebars, standard Norton/Lucas left console & lever, Magura front brake lever, Clubman Racing rearset footpegs & controls.
ELECTRICAL & LIGHTING: Includes a new AGM battery and new cloth-wrapped wiring harness requiring some adaptation for this layout (ignition & 3-phase alternator, brake light switches). Currently set up to run batteryless with the ARD micro electronic magneto (rare and amazing in it’s simplicity), and modern dual-lead coil. Sparx 3-phase alternator & solid state regulator/rectifier. Original Norton/Lucas left side thumbswitches, classic chrome right thumb kill button. Early style Lucas “beehive” tail light, 5″ mini headlight on Clubman Racing fairing/headlight mount. Basic lighting will be functional upon delivery to shipper.
BODYWORK: Dunstall long range gas tank & dualseat; gas tank must be run with NON-ETHANOL gas, or lined with appropriate tank liner. Clubman Racing SS style quarter fairing. OEM fiberglass sidecovers (left side missing Dzus fastener). Plastic front fender.
Will remove existing gas tank and replace with NEW steel Roadster tank (see photo), painted in original Black, or basic buyer-specified paint scheme, with basic Norton tank logos, no additional charge (buyer pays for custom paint scheme and/or sidecover paint if different).
Will remove existing seat and install NEW MkIII Interstate seat with modified mounts to align with Roadster tank (see photo), with basic aftermarket tail light and rear fender, at no additional charge.
Will remove tank, seat, fairing, and lights, and replace with complete set of John Player Norton bodywork with windscreen, mounts & decals, for an additional charge (not included in auction, see photo).
OTHER: This bike includes some very nice, trick, rare stuff, and I have no interest in talking about offers apart from actual BIDS. I have made a very good effort to list every detail, “What you see is what you get”, but the bike is a bit dull and dusty from sitting. I have available some decent photos of some individual / new parts, as well as some photos of the assembly phase of the build. This bike is being offered to friends on various online forums, so the listing may disappear at any time including minutes or seconds before the auction ends; “you snooze, you lose”, that’s why I included a “Buy It Now” price.
