VERY NICE, CLEAN AND RARE VINTAGE/CLASSIC ITALIAN SPORT BIKE. 1981 MOTO GUZZI V50 III WITH MONZA ENGINE.

THIS BIKE HAS BEEN COMPLETELY GONE THROUGH FRONT TO BACK WITH A FEW MODIFICATIONS ALONG THE WAY. I’VE BEEN RESTORING VINTAGE BIKES FOR MANY YEARS AND AM A MASTER MECHANIC WITH LOTS OF EXPERIENCE ON EURO, BRITISH AND JAP MAKES. I DO THIS FOR FUN, MY PROFESSION IS AIRCRAFT TURBINE ENGINE MECHANIC.
THIS BIKE CAME INTO MY POSSESSION AS A NON RUNNING PROJECT AND MISSING A FEW PARTS.AFTER DOING SOME DETECTIVE WORK , I FIGURED OUT THE ENGINE WAS NOT ORIGINAL TO THE V50 III CHASSIS BUT WAS IN FACT A MONZA ENGINE WITH THE BIGGER VALVES AND 28MM CARBS. THIS CAN BE VERIFIED ON SEVERAL WEBSITES BY THE “PE” PREFIX ON THE ENGINE SERIAL NUMBER. FRAME NUMBER IS PF 100170 (PF = V50 II AND III) ENGINE NUMBER IS PE 022010 (PE = MONZA) THE MONZA ENGINE HAS A FEW MORE HORSEPOWER THAN THE V50 III SO I CONSIDER THIS A PLUS.
PREVIOUS OWNER CUT OFF THE MUFFLER HANGER PORTIONS OF THE FRAME SO BIKE WOULD NEVER BE ORIGINAL ANYWAY, THIS DOESN’T HURT ANYTHING BUT THE STOCK MUFFLERS COULDN’T BE USED AND THERE IS NO WHERE TO PUT PASSENGER PEGS SO THIS IS A TRUE CAFE RACER RIDER ONLY BIKE.
FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF PARTS REPLACED AND WORK PERFORMED.
FORKS WERE OVERHAULED WITH NEW SEALS AND FRESH OIL.NEW AVON TIRES.NEW CERAMIC BRAKE PADS ALL AROUND AND OVERHAULED REAR MASTER CYLINDER.FUEL TANK HAS BEEN FLUSHED AND TREATED, NO RUST.OVERHAULED CARBURETORS WITH INDIVIDUAL FOAM FILTERS.DYNA ELECTRONIC IGNITION REPLACES GARBAGE STOCK POINTS SYSTEM.CLAMP ON UNBAFFLED SILENCERS, NOT EXTREMELY LOUD BUT HAS THROATY AGGRESSIVE SOUND.STOCK JUNK HEADLIGHT/TURN/HORN SWITCH HAS BEEN REPLACED BY ONE OFF A KAWASAKI EX250.CLUTCH LEVER MODIFIED FOR EASIER PULL.NEW BATTERY. FULL TUNE AND SERVICE. ALL FLUIDS (ENGINE, TRANS AND REAR DRIVE OIL, BRAKE FLUID) AND OIL FILTER CHANGED.FLAT BLACK PAINTED EXHAUST AND WHEELS.BODYWORK HAS BEEN PAINTED WITH VIPER RED URETHANE. FRONT FENDER WAS CUT. NO DENTS OR DAMAGE TO ANY BODY PART.UGLY, BULKY REAR FENDER WAS REPLACED WITH AN ACERBIS PLASTIC FENDER/TAIL LIGHT COMBO.CUSTOM FITTED CLASSIC 1/4 FAIRING WITH SMOKE WINDSCREEN.NEW PIGGYBACK SHOCKS LOOK GREAT (MADE IN CHINA)U JOINT WAS OVERHAULED WITH NEW BEARINGS.NEW U JOINT BOOT.LED TURN SIGNALS.BIKE DOESN’T LEAK A DROP.
THIS IS A VERY LIGHT, NIMBLE, AND FUN BIKE TO RIDE. IT HAS A LOW SEAT HEIGHT AND IS EASY TO HANDLE.THERE ARE TONS OF JAP CAFE BIKES OUT THERE BUT IF YOU’RE LIKE ME AND WANT TO BE UNIQUE, YOU’LL LOVE THIS BIKE.WITH THE MONZA ENGINE AND MODS, IT IS FASTER THAN YOU MIGHT THINK.
TOTALLY RELIABLE, I’VE TAKEN IT ON 100 MILE RIDES AND SHE NEVER MISSED A BEAT. FIRES RIGHT UP, IDLES AND RESPONDS TO THROTTLE PERFECTLY.
15,000 MILES ON ODOMETER AND I BELIEVE THIS IS CORRECT BUT I DON’T KNOW HOW MANY MILES ON THE ENGINE. I BELIEVE FROM THE RUNNING CONDITION AND GENERAL APPEARANCE OF THE ENGINE IT IS ALSO LOW MILEAGE.
LESS THAN 500 MILES SINCE ALL THE WORK WAS DONE, TIME TO MOVE ON TO THE NEXT PROJECT. I’M ASKING WHAT I HAVE IN THE BIKE, NO MORE.
