1982 BMW R100 Custom Café Racer
This one-of-a-kind custom vintage airhead was rebuilt, ground up, by the seller (S&S Boxer) out of Erie, PA. Next to having this machine rebuilt and running like new, we wanted to produce something truly beautiful and inspiring. Keeping classic aesthetics in mind, we also wanted to introduce modern ergonomics and an updated aggressive modern stance and feel.
The high gloss Mineral Grey Metallic fuel tank with High Gloss Black wheels brings a very aggressive modern style and look to a once dated and drab attire. The lowered front suspension and lowered clip-on style handlebars really brings a streamline “I’m ready to race” appearance and function to the build. This custom 1982 BMW r100 brings an elegant classic ride into a modern era of unique custom-built machines that surely won’t go unnoticed.
The engine was completely disassembled and serviced for a complete rebuild of all components. All gaskets, seals, o-rings, and consumables were replaced. The pistons and cylinders were inspected before they were rebuilt to assure this machine was hiding no secrets prior to the rebuild. New piston rings and freshly honed cylinder walls were performed. All intake and exhaust valves were cleaned, inspected, adjusted, and serviced. This same procedure was performed on the 5 speed gearbox, and final drive components to ensure this motorcycle would run as it did back in 1982.
The fuel tank and fuel system went through a thorough cleaning, rebuilding and servicing procedure. Cleared for any cracks, dents, or other structural issues, the tank was repainted in BMW B39 Mineral Grey Metallic sourced from BMW’s F80 M4. The original failing internal sealant was removed and the inside cleaned. The inside was resealed with a very durable and resultant fuel tank sealer. The original Bing 40 carburetors were also disassembled, rebuilt, balanced and adjusted. We decided to have the carbs painted in a silver fuel resistant epoxy paint to honor the look of the original bare aluminum finish, but without worrying about the test of time corroding such a finish.
The front suspension was rebuilt of seals, lowering springs, fork oil, and bump stops. The original calipers were refinished, and fresh brake pads were installed with stainless steel brake lines by CoreMoto. The same process was repeated for the rear brake assembly as well.
The original electronics and wiring for this machine were removed and replaced with a system from Motogadget in Germany called M Unit. This component is the main brain and bus for the entire electrical system of the machine. No more fuses thanks to mosfet switching technology. No more starter, load shed, horn, or flasher relays are needed. This unit is able to automatically perform the tasks of these relays and fuses all within itself.
This machine truly is one of a kind and there is not another one like it on any road you could ever tackle. This old and tired machine was reborn and ready to find her next adventure in life.
If you are interested please reach out to me. Like I expressed in the top of this description, I am the builder of this machine and will be happy to answer any question or discuss any part of the bike with you. Below are some auction details regarding shipping options.
I personally like to deliver the motorcycles I build to the buyer. It gives us an opportunity, in person, to talk about the motorcycle and go over functions and processes for the machine. The buyer is to cover the shipping costs. In my experience in the past, shipping companies are not the most careful creatures. Delivering It myself ensures that proper strapping and securing tactics are utilized. I also do not up-charge to ship or add a fee for my time. Please feel free to ask me about a shipping quote to your area if you feel the need before purchasing. Contact Josh at 814-923-3740
