This 1978 Honda CX500 Cafe Racer is the result of a meticulous 18-month frame-off restoration. The frame was professionally modified to accommodate a cafe racer hoop and then was powder coated gloss black at R&R Powder-coating in Dallas, North Carolina. While the engine was off the frame, the notorious Murray Feldman, of Murray’s Carbs, rebuilt the entire back end of the motor including the Cam Chain, its guides, and tensioners along with new clutch springs, radiator fan, G8 Stator and a Rae Sans Ignition System. His perfectly tuned Mikuni Carburetors were then mounted to be able to allow the bike to run on the pod filters as seen and was then tuned on the MAC 2-1 Peashooter exhaust that completes the rawness of this cafe build. All fluids in the bike were also replaced including the oil, coolant, and final drive gear oil. The electrical system was then completed redone with an Antigravity Li-Po Battery, Rick’s Motorsports Regulator Rectifier, an LED Headlight along with LED bar-end turn signals/DRL’s were added accompanied by three LED brake lights in the rear along with additional turn signals below the seat. All of the electrical controllers and battery are located beneath the seat in a handcrafted electrical tray that was powered coated with the rest of the frame. The seat was a custom fabrication created at Gaston Service Company by a third-generation upholster in black vinyl with white diamond stitching that was formed around the gas tank to ensure the tightest of fits. The tank was completely refurbished by Tim Beam who sandblasted, sealed and then painted the tank with paint void of pigment to ensure the whitest paint as possible. The period-correct Honda decal was then placed on the tank and subsequently cleared over. Note, this bike was bought without an odometer so the reading of the OEM odometer that is currently on the bike with custom fabricated brackets is not correct. Finally, this bike has all features to pass inspection including a horn, headlight, turn signals, brake lights, and a custom-fabricated license plate bracket.
