This is a great example of a true British classic:The 1971 BSA Thunderbolt  A65 twin in original color and unmolested condition with 19k miles on the clock. If you want a show bike, this might not be for you. If you want something interesting and different, that needs a little tlc, read on.

It’s been with us for a year and mostly used in photo shoots, shows, films and promo videos. It’s all in original condition as far as I can see. No signs of chopping, grinding, just not used since 1979 [last tags on plate]. As well as it’s original condition, one of it’s greatest features is the “Patina”: nicely worn in with signs of usage and a lot of feel. The tank has scratches on one side and the seat is ok, has a couple of 2″ rips that have been taped. It could be reupholstered in time.  It’s been on the bench as a project recently but moving soon so no time to complete it. The aim was always to revive it and bring it back to life, not tear it apart to chop it or cafe race etc… The imperfections are a huge appeal  and gets a lot of attention and comments every time we take it out:  rare, unusual, different, retro, desert sled, cool bike… They don’t make them like they used to!   When we started, w e gently disassembled and cleaned thoroughly, she needed it! W e took care to gently take apart [not tear down, see photo]  and diagnose as we went.  As it was being used for photo and video shoots, we spent a lot of time cleaning it and acquiring parts as we went along, the intention being to make it a running bike.
It is in original green and white paint, tank shows a few signs of patina and scratches/scuffs which we decided to leave as it ads to the patina. The inside of the tank is rust free and ready for fuel! We fitted new petcocks [old ones are included] and filters.Fuel lines are also included but not fitted. The air box is fitted and comes with 2 new air filters [see photo] Brakes front and rear need to be checked, rear brake pedal supplied but not fitted. Original front headlight bucket, rear tail light section and passenger grab handle all cleaned and fitted. Beautiful original stock mounted  speedo  shows 19158 original miles.  Clutch plates and basket cleaned and reassembled. New clutch cover and gasket fitted. [spare gasket supplied] New spark leads and plugs are included New rear stainless steel rim, spokes and fresh Dunlop tt100 tire. Original handle bars are very comfortable and look rad with one small mirror on the left side.Comes with 2 keys, original owner’s manual, workshop manual and Haynes manual.   Additional spares include a complete rear wheel and t ire, off white heat wrap and ties,  Also included in lot are a bag of SAE tools: ratchets / sockets and wrenches.
Needs:Battery and coils Engine oilNew front tireFront fender is supplied but need to be mounted. Speedo cable supplied needs to be fitted Harness is in place and has not been touched. It will need to be checked once battery is fitted.
Needs to be ridden… That’s what we can remember at the moment!

Title:I’ve marked the bike as salvaged, which it is NOT.  The previous owner had lost the paper work. DMV couldn’t find it on the system the first time I went.
They said it was  off the books so needs to be CHP inspected and re registered. The last tags show 1979 so straight forward   I haven’t found the time to go back, I’m listing it low with no reserve. I will issue a bill of sale and a signed  affidavit which is all the  DMV require for title transfers. So the bike status is currently unregistered.
Overall this is a very cool and special bike. We are sad to part with it, but relocation forces a very reluctant sale. This is a cool slice of early 70’s BSA history with the potential to be a daily rider or a retro revival.  Ride it as is, customize it and turn it into a cool minimal desert sled, cafe racer or restore it back to it’s original  BSA  glory. Either way, these are rare and it’s getting harder to find a good one.  I looked at many Thunderbolts before I found this one.
Terms: Please only bid if you’re genuine ly interested.I have described the bike as honestly as I can Cash on collection.$500 due via Paypal at end of auction.
