Date : March 22, 2022
Location : Seattle, Washington, United States

One of the most collectible motorcycles Harley Davidson ever produced…this 1978 Harley Davidson XLCR is in pristine condition.  It is one of the finest examples of an XLCR Cafe Racer that is available today.  I have kept it in my heated motorcycle gallery for the past 12 years, riding it annually to local and regional shows where it has won several first place awards.  It was professionally restored several years ago and has been maintained and serviced as needed.  Just over 500 miles have been put on it since its restoration.  All gauges, lights, turn signals, and horn work as new, and this numbers-matching bike runs strong and shifts, handles and brakes well.  Recent service included new fluids, battery and spark plugs.  The tires are the correct white lettered NOS Goodyear Eagle A/T’s, as featured in all of the original brochures and ads.  Instruments sitting behind the tinted front windscreen include the original 150 mph speedometer, 8k rpm tachometer, and warning lights.  Behind the rear-set foot controls are the rare factory optioned passenger pegs mounted to the rear axle.

For those not familiar with the XLCR cafe racer model, it was only produced in 1977 and 1978.  The all  steel black tank, fiberglass tail piece and bikini fairing, coupled with the unique black Siamese exhausts, made the XLCR arguably the most attractive bike of its era.  The XLCR was the first Harley with triple disc brakes, Morris alloy Mag wheels, and it utilized parts and styling cues from the Harley XR750 track racer.  With its 1000cc engine and 4 speed transmission it was touted, when new, as “the most powerful production cycle Harley Davidson has ever built.”
This is an investment quality motorcycle and a very rare and exclusive piece of motorcycle history.  It is one of only 1,201 produced in 1978.  Winning bidder will receive a clean Washington State title in my name, owner’s manual, many XLCR posters and prints as shown with the pictures, and several period magazines that featured the XLCR.  Also included will be the first place plaques awarded from LeMay America’s Car Museum, The Classic M/C Club of Vancouver BC, and Eastside Harley Davidson’s Inaugural Bike Festival.
I invite any bidders or their representatives to view the bike in person, or ask any questions before the auction ends.  This bike is sold as is, with no warranty.  The winning bidder must pay the $500 non-refundable deposit via PayPal within 24 hours of close of auction, with the balance due to be paid within 7 days of close of auction, by direct wire transfer.  I will gladly work with your chosen transport company to insure an efficient and safe transfer to your location (I have had great success with Haul Bikes in the past, as they are very professional).  Thanks for your interest, and good luck with your bidding!
